Thomas’ Story follows a father whose son's life-threatening illness compels him to gather complex scientific journals and have Google Gemini compile a list of similarities to other diseases. This effort unites a group of researchers to support his cause.
Ai in branding presents several challenges. One, is that it can feel disconnected from the human experience.
Through Ai, finding a balance of authenticity and brand can be difficult. With Thomas’ Story, it gave Google a unique opportunity to see Gemini in an authentic light and bridge the gap of relating Ai to consumers.
The Ai Challenge
Expressing realism in media is challenging. Even though the events in Thomas’ Story are real, telling it through a designed user experience can easily take that authenticity away. To tell this story in a way that felt real, rather than designed, we incorporated the perspective as if filming the events a screen with the use of screen textures and lens blurs.
Real vs Designed Reality
It was an honor to contribute to a project that holds significant emotional weight and importance. Engaging with stories that resonate on such a deeply human level allows for a profound connection to both the work itself and the individuals it aims to impact. This opportunity helped serve as a reminder of the power of storytelling and why motion can help make a the human experience more compelling.
